An elderly woman onboard a ‘Maldivian’ flight bound for Male’ from Seenu atoll Gan died suddenly during the journey, an official from Island Aviation has said on Monday.
The official said that the woman had not declared herself as a sick person who needed medical assistance when she had boarded the flight and that she had died quite suddenly during the trip.
“If anyone declares themselves to be sick then we will pay special attention to their well being,” the official said. “However, the woman had even boarded the flight without any assistance.”
He said that the woman had complained of difficulty in breathing while the plane was around 20 minutes away from Male’, and that the flight crew and a doctor who had been one of the passengers onboard the plane had provided what aid they could. But since she had not declared herself as sick before the flight they had not been able to provide her with an emergency oxygen supply, the official said.
“If she had been declared sick before then we would have been able to provide her with such emergency assistance as a oxygen supply,” he said. “However the crew provided first aid and offered every possible means of assistance they could.”
