An employee working for the Main Branch of the Bank of Maldives was caught while trying to embezzle Rf50,000 from the bank, last Thursday.

According to Haveeru sources one of the employees at the cash counter at the bank had reported the missing money and the Police had been called into investigate. The money was however found a short while after the Police began lifting fingerprints for their investigation. The money had been hidden and was revealed to have been concealed by the employee at the cash counter that had first reported the money as missing.

Even though the Bank did not reveal details of the incident, the Assistant General Manager of the Bank, Fathimath Manik, confirmed that “the incident had happened”.

“The incident was reported to the Police the very same day,” she said. “Since the Police are still conducting investigation we are not at liberty to reveal any details about the case.”

The Police also said that since they were investigating the case of some missing money from the Bank they could not comment on the case. Police didn’t confirm whether anyone had been arrested in connection to the case.
