The 15-year-old stab victim of an apparent gang attack died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Sri Lanka.

Ahmed Shaneedh, of Gulcoze ge in Thaa atoll Vilufushi, was critically injured in an attack last Monday and was taken to Sri Lanka for further treatment last Wednesday after doctors at IGMH were unable to stabilize his condition after three days at the ICU Ward. Doctors weren’t very hopeful about Shaneedh’s chances of surviving despite their advice to take him abroad for further treatment.

A family member said earlier that the reason they had decided to take Shaneedh abroad for further treatment was because doctors had said that there was a chance he might survive because he was so young.

“Shaneedh had suffered grievous wounds in the attack,” the family member said. “His condition was very serious even when he was taken to Sri Lanka. There was practically no hope that he would survive.”

According to doctors at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Shaheed had suffered severe injuries to his head, chest and stomach in the attack. Officials from the Hospital said that the doctors were most concerned about the stab wound to Shaneedh’s head and believed that brain damage was extremely likely.

Police have arrested two people in connection to the attack: Abdulla Shafeeu, 28, of M. Seiko and Fazeel Hameed, 18, of M. Lily Park.
