Maldivian quarantined after becoming positive to Influenza A

A Maldivian woman, who returned home from Sri Lanka, has been quarantined after being tested positive to Influenza A, according to health ministry.

The ministry said in order to confirm whether she has contacted AH1N1 virus, samples taken from her has been sent out to Sri Lanka yesterday and depending on the results received, she will be released from the Quarantine Center.

The Maldivian woman was tested positive to Influenza A, when tested on her return from Sri Lanka yesterday after spending 19 days in Sri Lanka. She came under suspicion as she showed flue like symptoms during the screening process for AH1N1 at the airport, Health ministry said.

So far only one Maldivian has been tested positive for swine flu. The 47 year old Maldivian woman became suspicious of having contacted the disease after she returned from UK with a stopover in Sri Lanka. She has been released from quarantine after making a full recovery.

The other person who was tested positive to swine flu in Maldives was an Indonesian woman working in Coco Palm Resort in Baa Atoll. She was tested positive to Influenza A on 23 July, she was released from Quarantine Center at Hulhule’ after being treated for seven days.
