International Relief Organization to construct an orphanage

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has revealed that a delegation from International Relief Organization run by Muslim World League is expected to arrive in Maldives in early June to hold final discussions on constructing an orphanage.

State Minister for Islamic Affairs Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed speaking to media said that the matter has been discussed and agreed and that what remains to be done now is to make it official. He also said the President has been requested to provide a suitable site for construction of orphanage.

Sheikh Shaheem further said World Muslim League proposed the construction of an orphanage during previous administration but had to abandon the project due to certain obstacles imposed by the former regime.

He noted the importance of having such an orphanage in the country to look after and educate the orphans in the country. He also said the ministry is ready to provide assistance to the children’s correctional facility in Maafushi.
